Ethan would understand. Ethan had come from the era of harshness that left the Deck with its modern iteration of violence, even if now it tended to linger much more around the edges and seep into the cracks. Ethan had once been too young for different burdens thrust on his shoulders and tried to sort together the pieces.
Ethan didn't have to be smiled at and told that she was fine; that she was glad.
So it took a moment of contemplation to answer. Sitting properly came with the careful slow movements almost of a dancer--the sort that settled over Eileen when her mind needed to race and couldn't be bothered to keep track of her body.
Her breath came in a long puff as she properly flopped into the chair. "Everything was-- claustrophobic. Like suddenly there wasn't-- any air I could actually breathe left in the room, just-- something suffocating that might keep me alive just-- long enough to understand everything was over."
It was a touch melodramatic, perhaps, but it had sprung from a place of honestly.
"But it..." She had to pause again, but just for a breath this time. "When I woke up this morning, I felt-- safer. So... it must have been worth it."
